Install MD3000i Storage Client on your computer

Posted by Brajesh Panda on December 29, 2009

  • For detailed instruction please visit Dell.com or Installation & Configuration Guide in the CD/DVD
  • Download MD3000i Resource CD from Dell Site
  • Start installation by double clicking “Setup.exe” in the same server where you like to configure a Storage LUN.
  • I assume you have already configured basic things in MD3000i like
    • Assigning IP Address to Management Controller
    • Assigning IP Address to iSCSI Controllers
  • Make sure your logon ID has Administrative permission to install software & it don’t have a “!” icon before your user account. I spent 2days to figure out why my installation is failing due to “!” before my user ID. They have a standard to put “!” before consultants Domain ID.

  • Click on “Install MD3000i Storage Software

  • As my server is a Windows 2008 server, it comes by default with iSCSI Initiator installed. Else in other opeating system please download initiator from Microsoft Site & Install it before you start the installation. Then Click “OK” to continue the installation.

  • Click “OK” after selecting the language. For me it is “English” & then click “Next” to continue
  • Select right button for installation. Better to keep default i.e. Typical Installation

  • Keep default parameters & click “Next” to proceed. Then Click “Install” to start installation.
  • Installation will require 120MB of space. Hence if require please change the location for Installation.

  • Installer automatically starts installing “Java Runtime Environment” & “Multipath IO Drivers“.
  • This software doesn’t use Microsoft Provided MPIO Driver for operation.
  • Reboot your server after installation gets completed

  • After Server gets rebooted you will able to see this software under Programs – Dell

  1. […] Apart from 1st 2 HDD I have pulled out all HDDs from Dell PE Servers & Populated remaining empty slots of MD 3000i. And made sure these HDDs are compatible with the storage box. Easy way of doing is install MD 3000 storage manager software & verify from the console software. I have discussed the installation & MD 3000 config step in one of my old post. It is here. […]
